Destruction of Bangladeshi Hindus: An Ongoing Pogrom

A Bangladeshi Hindu Beaten to Death by Imams and islamists

Bangladesh’s Hindu population is dying. This is not opinion or the ravings of an ideologue: It is a fact. At the time of India’s partition in 1948, they made up a little less than a third of East Pakistan’s population. When East Pakistan became Bangladesh in 1971, Hindus were less than a fifth; thirty years later, less than one in ten; and several estimates put the Hindu population at less than eight percent today. Professor Sachi Dastidar of the State University of New York estimates that about 40 million Hindus are missing from the Bangladeshi census. (Population statistics taken from the census of Pakistan (1948), and Bangladesh (1974 and 2001). Also see Dastidar, Sachi G.; Empire’s Last Casualty: Indian Subcontinent’s Vanishing Hindu and other Minorities. (Kolkata: Firma KLM Private Limited, 2008.)

Still having trouble wondering where this is going? Take a look at Pakistan where Hindus are down to one percent or Kashmir where they are almost gone. Take a look at the future of Bangladesh’s Hindus if we do not act.

Meanwhile, we have seen a consistent torrent of reports documenting anti-Hindu pogroms there; “incidents” including murder, gang rape, assault, forced conversion to Islam, child abduction, land grabs, and religious desecration.

And while Bangladeshi officials might object that the perpetrators were non-state actors, government culpability rests, at the very least, on the fact that it pursues very few of these cases and punishes even fewer perpetrators. Their excuses have not stopped the killing. In fact, successive Bangladeshi governments—whether the openly Islamist BNP, the civilian or military caretaker, or the supposedly pro-minority Awami League—all have been passive bystanders, failing, or refusing to exercise their sovereign responsibility to protect the life and security of all their citizens; and thus they have sent radical Islamists and common citizens alike a clear message that these acts can be undertaken with impunity.

Many Bangladeshi Hindu refugees live largely illicit colonies throughout North and Northeast India. In describing the attacks that forced them to leave their ancestral homes, they made it very clear that their attackers were not necessarily radicals, but neighbours; common, everyday Muslims.

There is also Reports on when they ask the police and other officials for help, they were advised to drop the subject and “get out of Bangladesh.”

Who did it?
Not al Qaeda or even Jammat; but simply Muslims who lived in the area and knew they could have their way with the family, seize their land, and get away with it. And that is chilling because history has shown that the most “successful” cases of genocide and ethnic cleansing occur when a small cadre of true believers incites average citizens to engage in heinous acts against a targeted minority that they otherwise would not dream of committing.

In fact, it is even worse; because albeit too late, the civilized world eventually heard the cries coming out of Nazi Europe, Rwanda, and Darfur.

As difficult as it was getting to that point, it is even more difficult getting the world to see an atrocity without concentration camps that has been going on for decades.

Human lives hang in the balance! Whatever the authorities have done, it has not stopped the murders, rapes, and expulsions; it has not stopped the progressive de-Hinduization of East Bengal and Islamization of West Bengal.

When was the last time the UN  or anyone else protested the Ethnic cleansing of  Hindus in Bangladesh ?
What about  our country and the so called Pro-Hindu Political Parties?
Never; and it is our responsibility to make sure they do. Because if we do not, no one else will, count on it, and we will see an end to the Bangladeshi Hindus in our lifetime!

Hindus suffer in "secular India"

Religious discrimination is always blameworthy and allegations of state-sponsored majoritarian communalism, especially from the alleged votaries of secularism – Leftists and Islamists, are not new. But the same forces prefer to retain a strange silence when the situation gets reverse and the same is going on at Ranigarh, Jyotishpur Bazar, P.S.: Basanti, West Bengal in full swing.

The neighborhood is known for its Radha Krishna Temple, has been performing Durga Puja, The Grandest festival of Bengali Hindus, for 32 years at a stretch. But the situation started to worsen when the Muslim community of the vicinity did settle on to organize an Id-Milan Utsav in the field adjacent to the said Temple on 31.10.10. The decision, clearly discerned as a ploy to usurp political control of the entire area was enough to stimulate local Hindus and owing to their determination and struggle tooth and nail, the sinister design did suffer a humiliating defeat.

Meanwhile local leaderships of CPM & RSP did leave no stone unturned to go on with the Id-Milan Utsav, but the resistance of Hindus proved to be strong for them.Situation was out of the frying pan into the fire when local Muslims started to avenge the defeat – Nagar Sankirtan teams of the Temple (a common Vaishnavite ritual taking place early in the morning) were insulted, threatened for consecutive days and women were manhandled in particular. However, this was somewhat trivial compared to the recent events on account of Laxmi Puja. The pandal or makeshift temple for worshipping the Goddess in the Radha Krishna Temple did suffer a sacrilege.

The head of Idol of Goddess Laxmi along with two hands were chopped off; the entire pandal was also desecrated.
The situation was enough to infuriate the local Hindus who burst into protest. Witnessing the mounting Hindu rage police contingents were deployed with immediate effect but it was all to no avail. Even Subhash Naskar, Irrigation Minster of the State of West Bengal and local RSP leader tried to pacify the situation. But, contrary to his own belief, he was gheraoed for no less than almost two hours and could get out of the place under police protection and certainly benevolence of local Hindu youth.
Police officers (I.C. Pinaki Roy and others) tried to their best to make Hindus immerse the broken idol but the obstinacy of Hindus, not ready to do the same till taking into custody of the culprits, could not be dealt with by them. Nevertheless the partisan attitude of the administration has got revealed though several incidents hitherto – gravest of these has been non-availability of any authentic number or governmental authorization even after lodging an FIR.

In the evening a mob of 200-300 Muslims gathered to assault the Hindus but checked by the timely intervention of the police. Tension reigns supreme in the neighborhood.

P.S.: The police has forced Hindus to immerse the desecrated Idol of Goddess Laxmi and has taken a few Hindu youth into custody to maintain tranquility. However, any culprit is yet to get arrested.

Attacks on Hindus by Muslims in West Bengal: Preview 2010

Muslims are still a minority group in West Bengal whereas in Bangladesh, previously East Bengal, the opposite holds true; the Muslims there are the majority fraction while the Hindus have become a minority. Physical torture, molestation of Hindu women, looting of property, desecration of temples, eviction from ancestral hearth and home is all too common in the eastern half of the original, greater Bengal, i.e. Bangladesh and is almost exclusively perpetrated on the minority, Hindu/Buddhist/Christian communities by the majority, Muslim community. In sharp contrast, in West Bengal suffering of the Islamic, or for that matter any other religious, minority at the hands of majority community is practically non-existent.

What you are largely unaware, at least on the level of conscious awareness, is that in West Bengal Hindus are tortured on a regular basis by Muslims in sizeable demographic pockets where Muslims are in majority, and sometimes, even in those areas where Muslims form a sizable population..

The so-called culturally enriched and enlightened Bengali intelligentsia seems to be either sold out to powers that can afford to pay or remain hallucinated under the influence of an absolutely distorted and misinterpreted understanding of secularism. There seems to be no one present to protest or even utter a single word. The electronic media as well as the printed press remain completely silent and tight lipped under the influence of Petro-dollars and NarcoDollars. Vote hungry, corruption ridden, intellectually dishonest and unscrupulous politicians, irrespective of ideology or affiliation, play down anti-Hindu communal events as they seek the organized support of Muslim demography by appeasing to the general Muslim as well as its criminal underworld counterpart in a brazen manner.

Islamic expansionism engulfs a larger physical area and spreads its tentacles to augment its domain of influence in all its ramifications and as a consequence the very basic secular, democratic and pluralistic nature of West Bengal society seems to get crumbled.

The only question that seems to remain unanswered under the current state of affairs is how fast is that going to happen! Any knowledgeable and informed person will have serious doubts about the future for West Bengal as this part of Bengal is experiencing the fate and ultimatum that the other half of Bengal have been continually facing since the last six decades. We are leading into an inevitable, black curtain of Islamization in every sphere of life Bengali life. Please pursue the following Links and Website oand remember that even though this is fairly representative, it is only the tip of the proverbial iceberg. This is the stark, grim and realistic picture of the communal harmony in West Bengal.
